The importance of sleep, exercise, stretching and meditation – Emily Kos

I’m sure we have all felt what it feels like to wake up the morning after having a really late night, not great right? That feeling of being drained, not being able to focus properly and if I’m honest, quite moody. The importance of a good night sleep for your overall wellbeing is so underrated. Especially since we live in a consistently on-the-go society where sleep is always overlooked. How can you expect to perform at your best if you are constantly impaired? A good night’s sleep is linked to an improved immune function, higher productivity, a decrease of heart disease and stroke and so many more crucial benefits.

Why is it important?

To ensure we maximize the benefits of our 7-9 hour sleeps (yes, that’s how many hours we NEED for healthy functioning), we should pair them with exercise, stretching, and meditation. Why, you may ask? Because just like we regularly service and maintain our cars, we need to do the same for our bodies. Do you only take your car to the shop once it’s broken and doesn’t work as expected? Exactly. So, let’s maintain a regular routine of self-care. Therefore, never underestimate the importance of sleep and exercise and the wonderful effects they can have on your health and well-being.

Consider adding a weekly self-care hair mask to your routine. This practice not only nurtures your hair but also allows for some self-care time. It provides a relaxing 10-30 minute break to unwind and rejuvenate while tending to your hair’s health.

Exercise, stretching and meditation have so many physical benefits but also a lot of mental benefits to. When I’m feeling overwhelmed, I find 20 minutes of meditation gives me a clear head to reassess what’s going on and make a plan of attack. Overall I recommend after reading this setting aside time during the week to give yourself some YOU time. Whether its going for a walk or run, taking up yoga or just getting some extra sleep. The science evidence behind how beneficial it is for you speaks for itself!
