I’m sure we have all felt what it feels like to wake up the morning after having a really late night… not great right? That feeling of being drained, not being able to focus properly and if I’m honest quite moody. The importance of a good night sleep for your overall wellbeing is so underrated, especially since we live in a consistently on-the-go society where sleep is always overlooked. How can you expect to perform at your best if you are constantly impaired? A good night’s sleep is linked to an improved immune function, higher productivity, a decrease of heart disease and stroke and so many more crucial benefits.
Now to make sure we maximise the benefits on our 7-9 hour sleeps (yes that is how many hours we NEED to maintain our healthy functions) we need to pair it with exercising, stretching and meditation, Why you may ask? Because we need to regularly service and maintain our bodies… Do you take your car to get serviced regularly or do you only do it once it’s broken and doesn’t work how you expect it to? Exactly, so we need to maintain a regular routine of looking after ourselves.
Exercise, stretching and meditation have so many physical benefits but also a lot of mental benefits to… when I’m feeling overwhelmed, I find 20 minutes of meditation gives me a clear head to reassess what’s going on and make a plan of attack. Overall I recommend after reading this setting aside time during the week to give yourself some YOU time, whether its going for a walk or run, taking up yoga or just getting some extra sleep… the science evidence behind how beneficial it is for you speaks for itself!
